Over the next six weeks, our engineering team will be performing several rounds of load testing in preparation for January’s peak traffic in APAC and EMEA regions.
Load testing helps to prepare our systems and yours for additional traffic during the year’s busiest search times. If your system isn’t successfully tested, there’s a chance it’ll fail to meet demand and you’ll miss out on coverage.
In addition to real user requests, we’ll be adding synthetic traffic to all requests from Skyscanner to flight partner APIs.
Overall, we expect to send around 120% of our historical peak traffic from July 2019.
1. When will the testing take place?
The first round of testing in APAC will take place between 10am and 5:30 pm GMT on Wednesday 13th and Friday 15th of November.
Another round of testing will take place in EMEA between 10am and 5:30 pm GMT on Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st of November.
2. Why are you running these tests?
We want to ensure both our systems and yours can successfully manage increased traveller requests during January – the most popular time of year for flight searches.
3. Why are you including synthetic traveller requests?
They will allow our team to identify any potential issues and corresponding solutions before January, so we can provide the best experience to travellers.
4. How will partners be affected by these tests?
During the testing period, partners can expect your API to see a gradual increase in the number of requests from Skyscanner. Please note, however, that you’ll not see a corresponding increase in redirects.
5. When will my services return to normal?
Following the conclusion of the test at 5:30 pm GMT on the scheduled dates, partners should see services return to normal.
6. Will you be sharing your findings with partners?
While we probably won’t issue an external report, if we do identify any specific issues with your systems, someone from our Partner Success Management team will get in touch.
If you’d like to monitor the volume of live requests, we recommend logging into your Partner Portal during the testing period.
