Skyscanner’s Travel Rankings service is an analytics service which enables you to maximize your booking volumes through dynamic margining.
Why do you need it?
It enables you to be more competitive in the market place by giving you information on your price relative to other suppliers of travel products on the Skyscanner platform. By having an in depth view of the itineraries that you compete in, you can construct dynamic pricing rules based on a subscription to live data.
Some of the insights you will receive:
- Price - Simply the price that you charged for this itinerary. This also allows you to check the accuracy of your prices on the platform.
- Maximum Price Possible - The maximum price that you can charge for this itinerary without losing your rank or position. It’s the exact price of your next nearest competitor, so in order to retain your position you should keep your price just below this.
- Capture-able Margin - How much more you can charge while retaining your position. Precisely, it’s the difference between your price and the maximum price possible.
- Competition’s Cheapest Ticket - This is the price your cheapest competitor charges for this itinerary. If you have the book button, then it will be the competitor who is ranked number 2. If you don’t have the book button, then it will the competitor who does. The diff shown is the difference with your price.
- Overall Cheapest Ticket - This is the overall cheapest price for this itinerary. It's the price on the book button and it’s either your price or your competitor’s, whichever is cheapest. The difference shown is the difference with your price.
How will you receive the data?
It is available as a push API, whereby you receive a steady stream of information in real time each time your price is displayed.
Travel rankings works by making a POST request to a URL that you have created and communicated to us. Each time one of your prices is shown on our site, following a user's search, the request is sent with the data. In other words, every time your price is displayed, following a user search for one of the routes that you have provided, an HTTP POST request will be made to your callback URL (more details in the sections below).
To get started you will need to:
- Set up your server so that it is publicly accessible from Skyscanner and ensure we are safe listed to access it from any Skyscanner IP address. It must be able to handle multiple concurrent requests.
- Provide us with the callback URL to your server for receiving the rankings data. You can do so by opening a new request with Partner Services.
